Kitchen Units Go To Greenock Hospice

Argowan Hospice in Greenock has received new cabinet doors and fittings as a donation to cut down the costs of a kitchen refit.

River Clyde Homes made the donation to the hospice after acquiring a surplus of unused units.

The surplus came about when the housing association appointed new kitchen contractors. This led to the previous suppliers returning units to River Clyde.

It was decided that the unused units would be used for spare parts, but the housing association decided they were not of the standard colour and so many remained unused.

River Clyde then discovered Argowan Hospice was undertaking arrangements to update its kitchen and contacted its own kitchen supplier to produce a new design for the upgraded kitchen at the hospice.

Ardgowan Hospice serves the community through providing meals for patients and families.

In 2011 it supported 114 people in its in-patient unit.

Bridget Maunders, hospitality services co-ordinator, said: "Our hospice catering service is a very individual service. We pride ourselves in meeting the needs of our patients and their families, often providing eight different meals at various times throughout the day.

"Our new kitchen will therefore ensure we can continue to provide this vitally important and valuable contribution to their care."

Ken Stevenson, interim chief executive officer of Ardgowan Hospice, added: "The hospice greatly appreciates this very generous donation from River Clyde Homes. The new kitchen, which is now fully fitted, is a significant improvement on the previous one that served us well for many years."
