An East Ayrshire Council work experience programme is giving five young people a 20-week course to prepare them for a career in construction.
The 'Get Ready For Work' programme at Dumfries House Estate will see Tyla Crockett, Scott McHallum, Scott McGillvary, Edward McIlwain and Kris Leitch given experience and training in joinery, bricklaying, stone-masonry, painting, tiling and plastering.
The course will centre around the construction of a new educational centre, outward bound accommodation and renovating a former sawmill.
It will also involve the construction of a Hospitality Training Centre.
The course takes the form of shadowing tradesmen, gaining skills in construction and the world of work and the chance to discover their own interests and skill.
Councillor Robert McDill, Spokesperson for Delivering Community Regeneration said: "Regeneration is about more than just doing up buildings, it’s about investing in our communities, our young people and providing an improved environment for the future wellbeing of all.
"We’re working in partnership with a successful local employer, Hope Homes, to help restore and create useful buildings which will be of educational and leisure benefit to future generations. We’re also providing a fantastic opportunity for these young people to gain experience, self confidence and knowledge which will undoubtedly help them in their future lives and careers."
He added: "We aim to make it easier for employers to find, take on and develop the right people, while giving people of all ages a chance to develop their work skills and progress into sustainable careers."
Ian Hope, Director of Hope Homes said: "We are delighted to be designing and constructing these new buildings on Dumfries House Estate and this is a great example of how the estate is helping to regenerate the area."
