Drop-In Offered For Girvan Leisure Centre Plans

The people of South Ayrshire will be given the chance to voice their views on the new leisure and community facility planned for Girvan Harbour.

Design sketches, plans and a model based on the current designs for the £8m project will be available.

Attendees will be encouraged to give feedback on areas like the size of the pool, plans to include a restaurant and the size and capacity of a community hall or gathering space.

The drop-in consultation event will take place between 12:00 and 20:00 on Tuesday 27 November in the conference room at the Carrick Buildings in Henrietta Street, Girvan.

Architects Page & Park will be displaying their designs and will be available for a chat with the public.

Andrew Sinclair, Chair of South Carrick Community Leisure, said: "I know this has been a long time coming, but together South Carrick Community Leisure and South Ayrshire Council are working to ensure we come up with a new facility that will do exactly what we need it to for our communities and our people and – more importantly – that will continue to do that for a very long time.

"There's been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes and things are gearing up to full steam ahead, which is great news. We want to deliver the best possible outcomes for the people of Girvan and South Carrick and, with your input, we can do just that."

Councillor Bill McIntosh, Leader of South Ayrshire Council, added: "We're keen to ensure the new facility provides a positive balance between sports and leisure and access to arts and culture and the feedback from the local community will be key to finding that balance and ensuring the new building acts as a genuine driver for wider regeneration in this area."

The designs and information from the consultation event will also be available online for two weeks from Wednesday 28 November 2012.
