Positive Consultation For Girvan Leisure Centre

300 people have visited the Carrick Bildings in Girvan to have their say on designs for the new planned leisure and community facility.

The £8m development will be located at Girvan Harbour.

South Ayrshire Council says the public used words like "impressive" and "spectacular" to describe the plans for the facility.

The local community was invited to comment on the designs by architects Page/Park as they went on show for the first time.

Optional facilities for the new building include a six-lane 25 metre pool, a fitness suite, a restaurant and a gathering space for community and arts activities and events.

Three local Councillors, Alec Clark, John McDowall and Alec Oattes were present at the viewing.

The designs received a generally positive response.

Andrew Sinclair, Chair of South Carrick Community Leisure said: "It was great to see so many people take time out to come along, view the designs and let us know what they think. This facility is going to make a huge difference for communities in Girvan and South Carrick, so it's vital they have the opportunity to get involved and take ownership of the project, which is exactly what they did at this event.

"However, this won't be the only chance for local people to take part as there is likely to be further consultation in the early part of next year as we progress the planning application for the new facility. The feedback from all this consultation – alongside feedback from other stakeholders – will help shape the final designs that will ultimately be presented to South Ayrshire Council for consideration."

South Ayrshire Council says it is likely the size of the proposed development will require it to be classified as a 'Major Development'.
