Work on Kirkcaldy’s new state-of-the-art swimming pool and leisure centre is making good progress.
Members of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee recently got the chance to tour the site of the new multi-million pound facility with Councillor Mark Hood, Executive Committee Member and Michael Graham, executive chairman of GRAHAM to find out how things are taking shape.
Work on-site is progressing well with the construction of the building expected to be completed in June.
Once the building is finished pre-opening preparations will be carried out and the facility is expected to open at the end of July. An official opening will be arranged to take place later in the year.
Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre will be the third of three in Fife to be completed as part of the Future of Leisure programme.
The council is investing £55 million in the Future of Leisure projects which include the Carnegie Leisure Centre, which opened in February 2012, and the Michael Woods Sport and Leisure centre in Glenrothes which is nearing completion.
Area Committee Chair Neil Crooks said: "I'm delighted to see that work is continuing to progress and gathering pace on the new Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre. It’s great that we’re only months away from the facility opening its doors and it looks impressive even at this stage, with the brilliant outlook over the Firth of Forth.
"I'm sure local people are looking forward to having a new swimming pool and training pool as well as an array of indoor sports facilities, including a multi-purpose aerobics studio, a four-court sports hall, a fitness suite and café."
Michael Graham, executive chairman of GRAHAM Group, said: "We're making terrific progress with the building and the internal fit-out is well under way.
"The main building envelope is now weather tight and mechanical and electrical services are being installed. Tiling has begun in the changing areas and soon the team will start to tile the leisure and training pools.
"GRAHAM Construction is enjoying an excellent relationship working alongside Fife Council and architects Cre8 and B3 to deliver this fantastic new multi-use facility and I’m confident the community will look forward to make use of the leisure centre once it opens, especially when they see the tremendous view from the gym."
Fife Sports & Leisure Trust will manage and operate the Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre on behalf of the council.
