£85m Wildside Eco Project Plans Unveiled

Plans have been unveiled for a new eco project in Glasgow, the BBC has said.

Developers for the £85m project, known as the Wildside development, is said to have named Cuningar Loop in South Lanarkshire as its preferred site.

Detailed plans are to be submitted in the summer, but it is understood the ambitious project will have three themed areas – polar, temperate and tropical, which would host a number of animal and plant species – as well as a conservation area, restaurants and a hotel.

The proposed site has been derelict for 40 years and would be situated opposite the Glasgow Commonwealth Village. If planning is successful, the aim is for the development to open shortly after the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Wildside World Ltd is now consulting locals about the development, with two drop-in sessions being held this week.

Steve Minion, Director of Wildside World Ltd, said: "The consultation events are an opportunity for us to share our vision with the local people and unveil some of the images of what Wildside will be like, and what it will bring to the region.

"We hope to engage with people at this early stage so that we have the opportunity to invite them to join in our consultation exercise and to update them in the future on our activities."

The drop-in sessions will be held at Rutherglen Town Hall on Monday from 5pm to 9pm and on Tuesday from 2pm to 6pm.
