Redevelopment For Pittencrieff Primary

Construction News Image
Plans to transform the playground of Pittencrieff Primary School has taken a step closer to completion after receiving funding from Dunfermline Area Committee.

A total of £5,945 was earmarked by the committee for the project.

The school has already raised £4k towards the initiative and applications for further funding have been made to other organisations in order to guarantee the £30k redevelopment.

Julie Journeaux, Headteacher of Pittencrieff Primary, said the project would be broken down into three phases.

The first phase would see the installation of a climbing tower with built-in games, while a trim trail will be added during the second phase, with a seating area and artificial grass and toadstools completing the project.

Ms Journeaux added: "The aim of the project is to redevelop the playground to provide a safe and stimulating play environment for both our pupils and wider community who will be encouraged to use the area outwith school hours.

"We’ve worked closely with our Parent and Pupil Councils to come up with the design, which includes a range of play equipment to promote physical activity and encourage a healthy lifestyle. We’ve also spoken to Hillside school for young people with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties, in Aberdour, and hopefully we’ll be able to work together to make and design planters for the playground."

Chair of the Dunfermline Area Committee, Councillor Mike Rumney, added: "I’m delighted that the committee has agreed to help Pittencrieff primary with their plans to give their playground a makeover.

"By involving parents and pupils in the project hopefully it will encourage ownership and pride in the school grounds.

"I wish them luck with their other funding applications and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished result."
