Public Consultation For North Lanarkshire Future

North Lanarkshire Council is inviting local residents to a public consultation regarding the future development plans for the town centre.

The consultation will focus on the Airdrie, Bellshill and Kilsyth town centres and the views of residents and businesses will be taken to developed a new Town Centre Framework and Action Plan for each town for the next five to 10 years.

The Action Plans will address a number of issues, including the design quality of the town centre and its public spaces, accessibility and circulation in and around the town centre as well as development and diversification opportunities.

Discussing the Action Plan, Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee, said: "Our town centres are vital to the well-being of local communities and the economy, so we want to give them a bright future.

"To help us achieve that, we need the views of the people who use our town centres. We want your opinions of what is good and bad in the town centre, what you use it for and when, how we support the town centre and what the main issues affecting it are.

"I hope businesses and residents will take a few minutes to complete the survey and help shape the future of their town centre."

Surveys will be issued to businesses and a standpoint survey terminal will be located within various facilities in the town centre. They include:

  • Kilsyth - the first location will be Kilsyth Library followed by the swimming pool, community police office and Kilsyth First Stop Shop


  • Airdrie - the terminal will be in Airdrie Police Station then the John Smith Pool and Airdrie Library


  • Bellshill - the first location will be Bellshill Community Health Centre, followed by the Cultural Centre and the First Stop Shop


The consultation has been extended to 24 May.
