Public Consultation For Kelty Community Centre

Kelty residents are being invited to discuss the facilities they would like to see included in a proposed new multi-use community centre for the town.

A project was already under development for Kelty Primary School to extend and refurbish facilities to support an increasing pupil population, including the development of a new gym hall for the school.

However, following the council's announcement of a £12m Community Investment Fund to help improve local facilities, a new approach has been considered which could see the development of a centre that would encompass both school and community requirements in one facility.

The proposal is broadly based on the new Benarty Centre which has already brought several council services together into one building.

A two week consultation period to allow residents to share what they would like to see in the proposed centre will begin on Monday 3 June and run until Friday 14 June.

Two public consultation events have also been arranged and will take place on Thursday 6 June at the Benarty Centre from 5pm to 8pm and on Wednesday 12 June at Kelty Community Centre from 7pm.

Joe Fitzpatrick, Head of Service with Fife Council Education and Learning Directorate, said: "This is an exciting time for Kelty and we want as many people as possible to let us know what they would like to see in a new centre.

"We want to ensure that the community voice is heard and build a centre that people will want to use. We hope that an enhanced multi-use community centre will be able to offer a wider range of community, leisure and educational opportunities as well as providing access to a range of Council services.

"We've organised the first public meeting to take place at the new Benarty Centre as the proposal for the new centre is loosely based on what was developed there. It will give Kelty residents the opportunity to have a look round the new Benarty Centre and see what a new centre could look like."
