A major refurbishment project is to get underway in Dalkeith Library.
The work will see a more inviting space created for the library's users.
The transformation works will see the windows of the building replaced, as will the shelving, and in order to accommodate the changes needing to be made, the facility will close for a period.
Dalkeith Library will close at 1pm on Saturday 3 August and is scheduled to reopen again on Thursday 1 September. Book lending services will remain available over this period at two mobile library stops, with a mobile library in Kings Park, Eskbank Road from 2.45pm to 4.15pm every Tuesday throughout August, and a stop in Woodburn Terrace between 1.30pm and 2.15pm every Thursday.
Councillor Lisa Beattie, Cabinet Member for Library Services, said: "We are really looking forward to a new and improved library in Dalkeith and to make sure work is done quickly, the library will have to close for a short period of time.
"Provisions are in place with two mobile library stops and we have made sure that the closure does not impact on the school holidays.
"As well as a refurbished library in Dalkeith we also have our brand new library at The Lasswade Centre. This is a fantastic space with self service, bright and airy reading spaces and lovely coloured glass windows. I would urge book lovers in the whole of Midlothian to get down to the Centre and see for themselves what our new library has to offer."
