East Ayrshire Council has said it is to continue carrying out essential carriageway resurfacing works.
The works are part of its planned Structural Maintenance Programme which aims to improve the condition of roads throughout the region.
The local authority has said the next section under the programme is the A71 between Glaston Roundabout and Loudoun Gowf Club.
The works will take place between Sunday 4 august and Saturday 10 August 2013.
Due to the nature of the traffic management needed to undertake the restoration works, the council has said there will be major delays to traffic at all times. The majority of the works will be carried out during the working day under temporary traffic lights and convoy arrangements.
However, due to the limited carriageway widths available and in order to maintain the safety of both the travelling public and the workforce, it will be necessary to close the road for two nights for final surfacing. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed along the route between 9pm and 5am on Wednesday 7 August and Thursday 8 August.
A diversion route will be in palace along the A719, to Crossroads, A76 to Cumnock, the A70 to Muirkirk and the B743 to Strathaven to rejoin the A71.
Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the works during the closure and will be prioritised during all other operations. All business along the length of the works will be open as normal.
East Ayrshire Council has apologised for the inconvenience the works will cause, but said they are essential and will improve the quality of the road surface.
