The work means more than 40,000 people in the area are now receiving clearer, fresher drinking water.
The £6m project involved the upgrading of more than 60 miles of water mains as part of an ongoing multi-million pound programme of improvements to the network across Ayrshire.
The work was undertaken in the Cumnock, Mauchline, Ochiltree and Logan area, as well as in rural areas such as Skeoch (between Mauchline and Tarbolton), and Skares Road, west of Cumnock.

Barhale were the appointed contractors for the project, and they replaced around 15 miles of pipes, plus inserted new lining in about 25 miles of pipes. Flushing or cleaning was also carried out on a further 15 miles of pipes.
Jim Hassan, Scottish Water's operations manager, said: "We are delighted to have completed this important work in these areas of East Ayrshire, which is part of our multi-million pound investment to maintain a supply of first class water to hundreds of thousands of our customers across Ayrshire.
"Delivering these improvements also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to improving our service to customers throughout Scotland."
