Scheme Launched To Support Irvine's Heritage

Businesses and households in Irvine, North Ayrshire, are being encouraged to improve their properties as part of a project to maintain the town's historic heritage.

The council has unveiled a small grants scheme for owners, landlords or tenants of flats, houses and commercial properties which aims to preserve and enhance the character of the town by supporting repairs and the reinstatement of traditional features.

The initiative will provide between 70% and 90% of the costs of the projects to the exterior of buildings.

Councillor Marie Burns, Cabinet Member for Economy and Employment, said: "I am delighted to see this project up and running and would certainly encourage individuals and businesses to put their ideas forward.

"Irvine has a long and proud history and many of the properties in the town centre allow us o glimpse into the town's past.

"By taking part in the scheme, individuals and businesses can play an active part in improving the town centre while helping to maintain Irvine's heritage."

The grant scheme is part of a wider Conservation Area Regeneration scheme (CARS) in Irvine which has already made a positive impact having provided funds for the restoration of the A-Listed Trinity Church. The Irvine Small Grant Scheme will focus on small to medium scale projects. Any property within the Irvine CARS area is eligible to apply for funding. More information can be found on the North Ayrshire Council website.
