Auchmuty High School Officially Opens

The new Auchmuty High School in Fife has been officially opened.

The facility is just one of the innovative, state-of-the-art, new schools being built in Fife as part of the council's £200m investment programme 'Building Fife's Future' (BFF). Built with two-thirds Scottish Futures Trust funding, the new school has been built to fit with the organisation and working of the school.

There is a central "street" with faculty areas leading off it which are organised so classrooms and resource bases for similar subjects can be housed together in one place, and the corridors and classrooms have a "see and be seen" design, which is already paying dividends at Dunfermline High School in terms of behaviour and discipline.

Classrooms are fully equipped with interactive TVs and other IT equipment and have been designed to be flexible, giving teachers the space they need for the new Curriculum for Excellence.


Lindsay Roy MP, a former Fife headteacher, attended the opening and said: "I'm very honoured to have been asked to open this amazing new school. Having worked in Education all my life I understand fully the importance of having good, quality buildings which are fit for purpose.

"Standing in the wonderful atrium, in a state-of-the-art new school, reminded me of an old adage, which applies equally to the fantastic new building and the people who make up this vibrant school community: If you want to shape the future, create it."

Councillor Bryan Poole, Spokesperson for Education, Children, Young People and Families, added: "The Building Fife's Future Programme is one of the most significant pieces of work undertaken by Fife Council. It has been a hugely collaborative project, with different council services working with outside contractors, to deliver a series of outstanding new schools for the young people of Fife.

"This is the second new high school we've opened as part of the Building Fife's Future project along with the new Carnegie Primary School. We are also looking forward to Burntisland Primary School opening next year and Levenmouth, Viewforth and Madras High Schools in the coming years. This is an exciting time for education in Fife."
