Water Mains Upgrade For Milnagavie

Scottish Water has said it is about to commence work to improve the security of supply of water to properties in the Stewart Street area of Milnagavie.

A number of properties in the area, mainly commercial premises, and road users have been affected by bursts on a water main, disruption to normal water supplies and flooding in the street.

The work will commence on 3 November and will be carried out by contractors Fastflow.

The project will involve the installation of a new 120 metre-long stretch of plastic pipe, which will replace the existing cast-iron pipe.

The scheme involves an investment of around £65,000 and is expected to be completed in about two weeks.

During the works, some road traffic management will be required, and will comprise three-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Stewart Street and Park Road for the first week of the work.

Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's Regional Community Manager, said: "We are pleased to be carrying out this improvement work in the Stewart Street area of Milngavie, which will benefit business that have been affected by burst water mains in the past.

"We will do everything we can to complete this work as quickly and efficiently as possible and to minimise any inconvenience to people in the area.

"We are sure that local businesses and road users will appreciate that any short-term inconvenience while the work is carried out will be far out-weighed by the long term benefits this improvement work will deliver.

"We thank them in advance for their co-operation and understanding."
