Graham Construction has released the dates set for three schools to relocate to their new premises on the flagship £44m Port Glasgow Community Campus.
Craigmarloch Additional Support Needs (ASN) School will move on Monday 9 December, while St Stephen's and Port Glasgow high schools will re-locate to the new campus on Thursday 12 December. It is understood pupils will arrive on those dates after three exceptional closure days to allow teaching resources to be moved from their current accommodation.
Port Glasgow High and St Stephen's will have their own distinctive entrances at the new campus with their own foyer and teaching areas. The foyers connect with a shared 'agora' or social hub of the campus, with the agora also connecting with Craigmarloch School and providing access to all shared facilities including art, science and technology, music, sports and drama.
The new single-storey Craigmarloch building is made up of nursery, primary and secondary blocks for both moderate and complex learning difficulties. It also houses a hydrotherapy pool as part of a suite of therapy facilities and the dining facility is close to the main schools dining area. Elsewhere, the new campus has a fitness suite and gymnasium, two all-weather pitches and a multi-use games area (MUGA). These will be available for community use outwith school hours, while Craigmarloch School has its own play area and smaller games area.
Gary Holmes, Regional Director of GRAHAM Construction, said: "The Port Glasgow Community Campus is the standard against which all other schools and education facilities in the country will be measured and it has been a privilege to work with Inverclyde Council to deliver such an outstanding resource for the local community."
Council Leader Councillor Stephen McCabe added: "I am very pleased we are able to confirm dates for the move into the new community campus.
"This is an incredibly exciting time for Port Glasgow and the new campus will be the crowning achievement of our schools estate programme and our £210 million commitment to the children, parents and staff of Inverclyde."
