Consultation For Wilton Lodge Park Gallery

Scottish Borders Council is to hold a consultation on plans to create a 'Park Gallery' at Wilton Lodge.

The proposals are part of a wider regeneration project at Wilton Lodge Park, and Hawick Museum wishes to create a gallery that will interpret the history of the park, and help explore the area's surroundings.

In order to achieve the full potential of the gallery, Hawick Museum has organised a series off consultation events with local groups and the general public.

They will take place in the museum and visitors will be able to see the proposed gallery space, and hear about the plans.

Consultation sessions will be held on:

  • Sunday 24 November from 2pm to 4pm

  • Wednesday 27 November from 10am to 12 noon

  • Wednesday 27 November from 7pm to 9pm.

In December 2012, the council was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the delivery stage of the restoration of Wilton Lodge Park. The project aims to restore the park's original features within the designed landscape and re-introduce lost heritage elements. In addition, it works alongside Hawick Museum and other local heritage attractions, and introduce new features.

The five-year restoration project includes elements such as the recreation of the historic bandstand, the building of a new café with a link bridge across the River Teviot and the restoration of the walled garden which is to be a centre for community horticulture and training.
