Revised Queens Hall Design Approved

Argyll and Bute Council have said its revised plans for Queens Hall, Dunoon, have been approved.

The proposals, which were submitted by Malcolm Fraser Architects, include all the aspects of the previous design, plus a number of additional enhancements to the public realm areas around the building.

In a statement, the local authority said the project is running to time and budget, but further funding might need to be secured to allow the additional public realm enhancements to go ahead.


Following a meeting of the Dunoon CHORD Board last week, it was agreed that the project should be further developed to see if these additional elements could be delivered within the original budget.

A number of public information events will now be organised which will allow local residents to see the changed designs and provide feedback.

Leader of Argyll and Bute Council and Chair of the Dunoon CHORD Board Dick Walsh said: "The designs presented by Malcolm Fraser Architects will provide Dunoon, and the wider area, with a fantastic facility which will provide quality services and amenities for both local people and visitors.

"I am very pleased with the progress so far and look forward to work starting next summer. The project is running on schedule and on budget."

The programme of works has scheduled major investigations work inside the building to begin in summer 2014, with construction commencing soon afterwards.
