More than one million people will benefit from the upgrades at Shieldhall and Dalmarnock WWWT in Glasgow, and the Laighpark WWTW in Paisley.
Together, the three schemes totalled more than £13m.
The improvement work involved the replacement or refurbishment of equipment at the WWTWs which will help improve their operability, as well as ensure they continue to help protect and enhance the natural environment on the River Clyde.
The upgrades are also in addition to Scottish Water's £250m, five-year scheme of improvements to the waste water infrastructure in the Greater Glasgow area that was announced in February, and included a £100m waste water tunnel.

The work at Shieldhall WWTW involved an investment of around £6.5m and will ensure that the continuous discharge from the WWTW meets ministerial and Scottish Environment Protection Agency requirements. The project included the replacement of screens, the replacement or refurbishment of pumps and the refurbishment of the sludge pumping station's main switchboard.
The work at Laighpark WWTW, which serves about 74,000 in the Paisley area, involved investment of about £5.5m in providing new screening and improvements to other assets, while the project at Dalmarnock WWTW, which serves up to about 370,000 customers, involved investment of about £1m. It mainly involved the upgrading of mechanical works and improvements to screens.
The majority of the work was carried out by contractors MWH Treatment Limited for Scottish Water Solutions, a joint venture partnership.
Commenting on the schemes, Gary Craig, Scottish Water's west area wastewater assets manager, said: "Shieldhall, Dalmarnock and Laighpark WWTWs play a very important role in providing waste water services to about a million customers in the area and this new investment, which mainly involved new, improved screening, will ensure they continue to provide a first-class service and help protect the natural environment of the River Clyde for years to come.
"We are committed to supporting the regeneration of the Glasgow area and to improving our infrastructure in the city as it prepares for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and other major events."
