Work to refurbish 15 homes in Old Mill Road are set to be completed within the next few weeks, Perth and Kinross Council has confirmed.
The council homes, once finished, will provide modern accommodation for families in the area.
The properties include 11 two-bedroom flats, two two-bedroom houses, one three-bedroom and one four-bedroom house. In February last year, the local authority agreed to renovate the homes. They had been vacant for a number of years.
In addition to the above, the Council has confirmed it plans to construct a further seven one-bedroom properties at Old Mill Road. In a statement, it has said the development would help to create a mixed and sustainable community while also addressing the housing shortage in the area.
Work on these homes is expected to commence towards the end of the 2014/15 financial year, with the Council already looking to hear from prospective tenants.
Welcoming the investment, Councillor Dave Doogan, Convener of Housing and Health, said: "This whole project will regenerate the Old Mill Road area of Rattray and make it a place where families want to live.
"The renovation work has brought all the properties up to a very high standard, including eco-features such as wall, loft and under-floor insulation, triple glazing, energy efficient heating systems, heat recovery ventilation systems and energy monitors to help minimise fuel bills.
"Tenants have been carefully matched to properties, and the Neighbourhood Agreement will help to nurture a sense of community and pride in the area, and create a positive, sustainable community.
"This will be a brand new start for the Old Mill Road area. It brings valuable and high-quality social housing back into use in an area where there is high demand for family accommodation."
