South Lanarkshire's Streetscapes To Be Restored

A number of streetscape areas in towns throughout South Lanarkshire are to benefit from restoration work, it has been confirmed.

The work will commence in East Kilbride Village on Monday 19 May. This will be followed by other streetscapes in Biggar, Carluke, Hamilton, Lanark, Rutherglen, Stonehouse and Strathaven.

It is part of a five-year programme, and the local authority has said the first three years will be spent restoring the condition of the streetscapes with the two remaining years being set aside for continued maintenance.


Land Engineering (Scotland) Ltd will be responsible for the contract works.

Head of South Lanarkshire Council's Road and Transportation Services, Gordon Mackay, said: "The original streetscapes have greatly enhanced many of our town centre areas. Obviously as time goes on they are in need of some restoration works, particularly the natural stone areas.

"This contract will maintain the condition of a valuable council asset and prevent any further deterioration. We will also be contacting public utility companies to discuss with them any works they may be looking to carry out in these areas in the near future.

"This will help to maintain a consistent and high level of workmanship in these areas."
