Work on a new medical centre in Ardrossan has been completed by Morrison Construction.
Allan Lyttle, Project Manager for Morrison Construction, handed over the keys for the new facility to Michael Ross, Construction Manager for hub South West Scotland and Omar Elmi, Commercial Director for Irvine Bay Regeneration Company.
The centre, which cost £2.5m, is expected to open this week.
Work commenced on site in autumn 2013 and has been delivered on time and on budget.
Located on Harbour Street, on the site of a former police station, the new 10,000 sq ft centre will provide a purpose-built facility suitable for modern health care and will allow expansion and future development of local health services. It will also allow minor surgery and enhanced clinical services to be delivered locally as well as continuing to provide a range of community services such as dietetics, district nursing and a travel clinic.
Michael McBrearty, General Manager of hub South West Scotland Limited, said: "This project represents our second successful project handover with Irvine Bay Regeneration Company and demonstrates the delivery of our vision to build better local services with our participants across the South West region of Scotland."
Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive of Irvine Bay Regeneration Company, who led the project, added: "The local community is delighted that we have completed such a needed and long-awaited development for the town that will primarily be of benefit to residents but will also be a valuable resource for tourists and visitors.
"Bringing this formerly derelict site back into use as doctors' surgery and healthcare centre is a great example of how buildings can be regenerated to provide vital services for the local area."
Allan Lyttle, Project Manager for Morrison Construction, commented: "We're tremendously proud to have played our part in delivering this new medical centre for the community of Ardrossan and I'm sure it will be well used by local people."
This project was delivered via hub South West Scotland Limited in partnership with Irvine Bay Regeneration Company.
