Scottish Housing Regulator Reveals New Corporate Plan

A new corporate plan has been launched by the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) setting out how it continues to work safeguarding and promoting the interests of tenants, homeless people and users of social landlords' services.

SHR Chair Kay Blair said: "Our vision is of successful social landlords delivering good outcomes for tenants, homeless people and others. We will contribute by regulating effectively, focusing on our three priorities: good services, financial health and good governance."

By publishing its first landlord reports and national analysis of performance against the Scottish Social Housing Charter last year, the SHR achieved a major milestone. It aims to increase its emphasis on good services and the Charter over the next three years. The regulator also aims to continue allowing tenants accessible performance information on landlords.

Ms Blair said: "We recognise that landlords are operating in an increasingly challenging environment. We will focus on the things that matter and impact most on tenants, like value for money and rent affordability." Ms Blair went on to say she looked forward to working constructively with landlords and tenant organisations, as well as their stakeholders.

The SHR also aims to maintain its focus on the governance and financial health with registered social landlords. Furthermore, their goal is to protect both public investment and the hard-earned reputation of landlords. Critically, part of the SHR's role is to preserve confidence of lenders and investors in social housing.

Ms Blair also spoke about recognising the shared goal to deliver for tenants, homeless people and others who use social landlords' services.
