The technique involves laying hot bitumen followed by chippings works to seal the road surface and also provide a better grip for vehicles.
However the surface dressing requires motorists to be aware when passing over treated sections of carriageway as there is a short term heightened risk of skidding.

It takes several days for the chips to fully in-bed into the road.
Chair of the council's Infrastructure Services Committee, Peter Argyle, said: "Warning signs advising of surface dressing works are always erected prior to work starting, and remain in place for several days after the work has been carried out.
"I would urge road users to drive at the advised speed limit to avoid any accidents."
