Highland Council has agreed the final allocation of funds for roads, bridges and flood improvement schemes over the next three years.
The additional funding is over and above that currently allocated for named major projects including the Westlink, Inshes Junction, Stromeferry and the Kinnairdie Link Road in Dingwall.
£1.5 million was allocated for 2015-18 and will be used to progress land acquisition and construction consents for the three highest priority projects.
The sites are the A890 Strathcarron to Balnacra, the A890 Balnacra to Lair and the A832 Slattadale to Kerryside.
£80,000 has been allocated to allow preliminary work to begin on four other projects in 2017-18.
These include:
• A890 Kishorn-Lochcarron-Strathcarron.
• A836 Thurso – Tongue.
• B810 Rhiconich – Kinlochbervie.
• A884 Carnoch-Lochalione.
The committee meeting also agreed to allocate over £3 million for three years to the Minor Road Improvements budget.
The minor road schemes include:
• A99 Keiss to North of Keiss road widening works.
• B851/B862 South Loch Ness Road Improvements.
• A832 Slattadale road widening works.
• B9091 Clephanton Bends, Cawdor improvements.
• Repairs to the Killimster Moss Road in Caithness.
• Completion of the Portree Link Road.
The committee further allocated £2.5 million in funding for improvements to 15 bridges in the region and £7.5 million for Major Flood Prevention Schemes.
Councillor Thomas Prag said: "The additional capital works investment agreed by the committee is expected to result in significant economic benefits and largely covers the more rural areas of the Highlands which will benefit local economies and communities."
