Ground Works Underway For New Primary School

Early ground works are underway on primary school site in East Dunbartonshire.

Building work on the Lenzie Moss Primary School site will start later in the summer after ground works are completed.

Ten pupils from Lenzie and Lenzie Moss Primary Schools, Council Leader Rhondda Geekie and both headteachers were at the site for the commencement of ground works.

Representatives from hub West Scotland, contractors Lend Lease and architects Holmes Miller were also in attendance.

The new school will be the second to be built as part of the Council's Primary School Improvement Programme (PSIP).

It is receiving £5 million funding through the Scotland's Schools for the Future programme, managed by the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Lairdsland Primary School, the first PSIP school, officially opened in May this year.

The new school will feature flexible and open classrooms, outdoor learning areas, landscaped play areas and a full 3G synthetic pitch.

There will be dedicated areas for art, science and display throughout the school.

It will have a capacity of 560 pupils along with a nursery class that can accommodate 58 children.

The council worked in collaboration with hub West Scotland and architects Holmes Miller to ensure the design of the school was 'innovative' and 'value for money'.

Grant Robertson, Associate Director at Scottish Futures Trust said: "I am delighted that the new Lenzie school has reached such a significant milestone.

"The Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme that SFT manages aims to create better schools and achieve value for money.

"I very much look forward to seeing the new Lenzie school open and witness the real value of the programme with pupils being taught in modern, first-class facilities."

The building is expected to be completed in autumn 2016.
