West Lothian Villages Gas Main Plans Move Forward

Construction News Image
Plans to build a new gas mains supply for a village in West Lothian are moving forward, it has been announced.

A council commissioned study has highlighted that the provision of a mains gas supply in Westfield is technically possible.

Currently, Westfield, Wilkieston, Breich and Newton do not have a main gas supply.

A Westfield gas study was undertaken by Scottish Gas Networks on the council's behalf, with findings confirming a possible route for a new gas connection from Armadale to Westfield.

Officials will now work in partnership with Scottish Gas Networks to develop the design and explore how proposals could be implemented.

The possibility of mains gas proposals being brought forward for Breich, Wilkieston and Newton will also be discussed.

However, the council has committed to installing PV panels on council houses within Breich, Wilkieston and Newton in a bid to reduce the region's carbon footprint.

Councillor George Paul said: "We are delighted that the initial findings of the study have produced a positive outcome and that it is now possible to move to the next stage and explore proposals in more detail.

"It's a very complex project for Scottish Gas Networks to install a mains supply to Westfield and there are many challenges ahead, but this is a step in the right direction. It is our hope that Scottish Gas Networks are able to bring mains gas supply to Breich, Wilkieston, Newton and Westfield in the future."
