The first brick has been laid in the £8.9 million new-build element of the Alyth Primary School upgrade programme.
Pupils joined Council Leader Councillor Ian Miller to lay the first brick and mark progress on transforming the school, which is part of the Council's ongoing programme of improvements and upgrades to the school estate in Perth and Kinross. Alyth Primary School is the latest project being delivered by the Council in partnership with hub East Central Scotland as part of a design and build contract.
The main phase of construction work began on site in January 2016. It is programmed to deliver the new primary school and improved community facilities through integration of the listed Victorian building and the new build element in late February 2017. This will be followed by four months of work to demolish other buildings on site and create a new car park with a nursery drop-off area and external landscaping.
Councillor Miller said: "I am pleased to see this project progressing well as it is very important for Alyth. This is a major investment to deliver a high quality learning and teaching environment for pupils and staff as well as providing modern community facilities for local residents. We are all looking forward to seeing the finished new school open its doors early next year."
Gary Bushnell, Chief Executive, hub East Central Scotland, added: "We look forward to handing over a high quality building next year that provides a bright, modern learning environment, which meets the needs of the community that it serves. This is the third primary school project being delivered by hub for Perth & Kinross Council and follows the successful completion of Oakbank and Crieff Primary Schools last year."
