Aberdeen Community Centres Receive Funding Boost

Construction News Image
Community centres in Aberdeen are set to be developed following a funding boost.

A total of £50,000 has been set aside by the local authority from developer contributions to Inchgarth and Kincorth community centres, enabling them to increase their capacity and activities for the entire community.

The proposed works at Kincorth Community Centre include a kitchen refurbishment which will provide wheelchair access. The venue will also allow the centre to develop plans for lunch clubs and vintage teas, and look at new ideas for groups and activities.

The centre's games hall is also to be made fit-for-purpose and allow for new classes and a wider range of activities such as Judo and KeepFit. The multi-purpose flooring could also be used by more specialised groups, such as ballroom dancing.

Inchgarth Community Centre have plans to introduce a new portakabin which can be used for new learning opportunities, training, meetings and to expand existing groups.

Councillor Neil Cooney, Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Infrastructure convener, said: "We recognise that community centres play a vital role in the fabric of our neighbourhoods through the provision of activities and learning and development for all ages.

"It is therefore important to be able to make finances available to allow them to increase their capacity and offer a wide range of activities for everyone.

"I'm looking forward to seeing this work complete and the new opportunities which result for the centres and everyone involved."
