Proposals for a £2.2 million refurbishment of Cumbernauld bus stances have been put on public display.
The project is a joint operation between Campsies Centre, Strathclyde Partnership for Transport(SPT) and Hamcap, owners of both the Cumbernauld Town Centre and Cumbernauld Shopping Centre.
A planning application has been submitted for the work, which is designed to upgrade and modernise the bus facilities for passengers.
The proposals have been issued to the community councils, community forum and elected members in the Cumbernauld area, and are on display at the bus stances.
The proposals include: full height glass fronts to the passenger waiting areas, increasing light and visibility to the bus stops; widened external pedestrian areas to improve safety and access; improved layouts allowing better passenger circulation; improved passenger information; and resurfacing of the bus stop areas.
Within each bus stance, on either side of the dual carriageway, there will be space for a kiosk and improved lighting and automatic doors.
"We now have a clear vision for the modernisation of Cumbernauld bus stances, which I believe will deliver significant improvements and create a contemporary facility for bus passengers," explained Councillor Allan Graham, Chair of Campsies Centre.
"Community groups are being asked to view the proposals, and the public have an opportunity to comment through the planning process. This is a key project for Cumbernauld town centre, helping to improve local facilities and encourage increased use of public transport."
SPT's Director of Bus Operations Ronnie Park said: "There is no doubt that the bus stances in Cumbernauld are long overdue an upgrade, we have been waiting a long time and, have had to overcome many challenges to get to this stage.
"We hope that passengers will like the enhanced facilities planned and that these will encourage greater public transport use in the Cumbernauld area and beyond."
