Builders and developers in the Lothians are being urged to offer more properties for sale.
Housing charity LAR Housing Trust is appealing for developers to create more housing and raise the organisation's homes portfolio.
The Trust is aiming to provide at least 1,000 affordable homes for rent over the next five years, funded by a £55 million loan from the Scottish Government. Further private sector investment is expected to take the overall funding package to more than £100m.
LAR Chief Executive, Ann Leslie, said areas in Aberdeen and Edinburgh were identified as places "most urgently in need of mid-rent homes" when the organisation launched a year ago to tackle the shortage of mid-rent housing.
"We have ten developments occupied or under construction already," she said. "Our aim is to target many places across Scotland, but pressure for affordable homes is still greatest across the Lothians.
"We need a steady supply of homes which are either completed, under construction or still at planning stage and I'd like to appeal to the developer community to come forward. Sites with as few as 4 homes or as many as 45 homes are of interest to LAR and in most cases house-builders standard house types meet our requirements."
Companies have until 5pm on 15 December to register their interest.
