A major wind energy conference is scheduled to take place next year in Glasgow.

The annual Offshore Wind Conference, by Scottish Renewables, will be held at the University of Strathclyde's Technology & Innovation Centre on 24 January.

The event, which will include an exhibition and speakers from various industry organisations, will focus on the roles of innovation, cost reduction, planning, infrastructure and supply chain to deliver the next phase of the UK's offshore wind fleet.

The Conference is also the second to be delivered in partnership with the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult.

Lindsay Roberts, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said: "Scottish Renewables' Offshore Wind Conference will bring together the industry's leading players to discuss and debate the key issues facing the sector.

"After the success of 2016's event, the 2017 conference will again be delivered in partnership with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, whose expertise in innovation and testing is helping cement the UK's position as a world-leader in offshore renewables.

"The conference will look at innovations such as 2-B's two-bladed turbine, Statoil's Hywind project and cutting edge developments in operations and maintenance.

"We'll also discuss challenges presented by different consenting regimes and those faced by Scotland's supply chain."

Andrew Jamieson, Chief Executive of ORE Catapult, added: "Following the success of the 2016 conference we are pleased to partner once again with Scottish Renewables, helping to bring together key industry figures to discuss some of the most important opportunities and challenges facing our sector today.

"The Scottish renewables industry has a huge role to play in bringing growth and prosperity to the Scottish and UK economies and in ensuring the continued success of the UK offshore wind industry."
