New Floating Offshore Wind Farm To Be Developed

Plans have been approved for a new floating offshore wind farm near Aberdeen.

The 50MW Kincardine Offshore Windfarm will be built around 15km south-east of Aberdeen.

A total of eight turbines will generate enough electricity to power almost 56,000 homes, as well as saving 94,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Around 110 jobs will be supported during the assembly, installation, operations and maintenance phases of the scheme.

Speaking after granting planning consent, Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse said: "Once operational, this pioneering, 50MW Kincardine Offshore Windfarm will produce enough electricity to power almost 56,000 homes and will create jobs and investment across Scotland through the use of our supply chain. It will also cement our place as one of the world's leading nations in the innovation and deployment of floating offshore wind."
