Morrison Construction has started work to build new classrooms for three schools in Edinburgh.
The £2.8 million investment aims to tackle the issue of rising rolls in primary schools.
Liberton Primary will benefit from a double storey four classroom new build, whilst refurbishment work will create additional space for St Margaret's and Corstorphine Primary will gain two new classrooms.
The scheme is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the new school year in August.
As part of the development, pupils at Liberton Primary took part in a Safety Sam presentation with Morrison Construction, where they were introduced to a range of construction issues from machinery to PPE. Children were also reminded to stay safe while work is being carried out at their school.
David Wilson, Operations Director for Morrison Construction said: "This is the fifth year running that we have worked with the City of Edinburgh Council and Hub South East on the Rising Roles programme – an excellent example of the strong partnerships built between all of those involved, one which Morrison Construction is rightly proud of."
Paul McGirk, Hub South East's Chief Executive, said: "It's exciting to mark the start of construction on a fifth year of our Rising Rolls school extension programme. Hub South East is proud to have worked in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council since 2012 to provide additional facilities in what will soon be 22 schools across the city."
"This programme is real testament to the excellent quality, fast turnaround and strength of partnership between ourselves, our council clients and supply chain. We look forward to the successful delivery of Liberton, St Margaret's and Corstorphine Primaries and to future projects together."
Cllr Cammy Day said: "The challenge of rising school rolls is one the Council is meeting head on as in the past four years we have delivered an extra 74 modern, high quality class spaces in our primary school estate. The four new classrooms being built at Liberton Primary School are a perfect example of how we have responded to their accommodation issues by working with the school community to come up with a suitable solution."
