Residents Invited To View Plans For Inverkeithing Town Centre Regeneration

Construction News Image
Residents are being invited to view plans for a regeneration programme in Inverkeithing.

The Information & Drop-in Session will provide details on the Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and Townscape Heritage (TH) initiative in the town centre.

The event will take place at the Civic Centre café area between 2.30pm – 8pm on Thursday, 26 October.

Last year, applications to the Historic Environment Scotland's CARS and Heritage Lottery Fund's TH initiative were unsuccessful.

The council is now working on new bids for over £3 million of funding. If successful, a five-year built heritage programme would get underway in April 2019.

The funding will go towards a varied programme of investment in key civic assets, the Town House, Friary Hospitium & Gardens, operating a small repair grants scheme to help owners improve traditional buildings in the town centre, and delivering education & training activities such as traditional building skills workshops and archaeological digs.

In addition, a match funding contribution of £430,000 agreed in September by the South & West Fife Area Committee increases the scope to also improve the public townscape as part of the package of improvements.

Cllr Alice McGarry said: "I'd urge local people to come along to the Civic Centre on 26th October to see how the plans for the town are progressing. Your input will help the project team to complete the proposals in the bid for heritage funding.

"This will kick start improvement and investment in the town. It's really important that we get feedback from the local community because we need to show potential funders that local people are supportive.

"Work needs to continue over the coming months and years to develop and implement the plans. The Information & Drop-in Session will be an opportunity for people to help shape what happens in their local area."
