Work is to begin on a £3.2 million environmental improvement project in South Lanarkshire.
The scheme aims to tackle flooding in part of Rutherglen and will be carried out by Scottish Water's delivery partners, amey Black & Veatch (aBV).
Features include installing a new section of sewer pipe, up to 750 millimetres in diameter partly made of concrete and partly plastic, along a 450 metre-long route to replace an ageing and smaller existing pipe which struggles to cope with the demand on the network. In addition, aBV will install an underground storm storage tank in nearby Stonelaw Woods, providing 425 cubic metres of extra storage..
Overall, the existing waste water network in Stonelaw Road and Viewpark Drive will be upgraded, helping to reduce flooding which has affected six properties in Viewpark Drive, three internally and three externally, and the surrounding area.
Ruaridh MacGregor, Scottish Water Corporate Affairs Manager, said: "The total additional storage in the tank and sewer pipe will substantially reduce the risk of flooding affecting the properties.
"Scottish Water is fully committed to doing everything we can to help communities and customers by playing our part in tackling flooding and dealing with the impact of heavy rainfall.
"Some properties in Viewpark Drive have suffered from recurring flooding over a number of years and we fully appreciate the inconvenience this can cause. We know that affected customers will welcome the improvements to our network in the area."
The scheme will get underway on 06 November and is scheduled for completion in summer 2018.
