Rapid Rehousing Plan Presented To Scottish Govt

Construction News Image
The Rapid Rehousing Transition Plan (RRTP) has been presented to the Scottish government, setting out how Perth & Kinross Council will continue its work to minimise homelessness.

The local authority will continue to assist homeless people into settled housing quickly and directly under the new plan.

This follows the success of the council's existing Home First approach.

Housing and Communities Committee Convener, Councillor Peter Barrett, said: "Our sector-leading Home First approach minimises the duration, impact, stigma and cost of homelessness as well as ensuring the best outcomes for homeless households.

"In leading the way with Home First we are in a very strong position compared to most other local authorities, as we are already operating a rapid rehousing system. It means that we can forge a new path with innovative ways to support people with complex housing and support needs. We can further empower front-line staff to prevent people becoming homeless when they first come in contact with the Council and we can personalise services and supports to prevent tenancy breakdown when people get a new home, ending the destructive cycle of repeat homelessness.

"Through the implementation of our RRTP we will see our Home First approach further enhanced and developed over the next five years, which will lead to further improvements in our services for people who find themselves without a home."

The RRTP will go to the Housing and Communities Committee for approval on 23 January.
