Delegates at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations' (SFHA) Property Maintenance and Asset Management Conference will hear about the Broomhill Regeneration Project from Elaine Cannon and Jonathan Grant of River Clyde Homes.
Prior to the regeneration programme, the Broomhill area was perceived as blighted by deteriorated housing stock, high vacancy rates, and a range of social issues, including crime, anti-social behaviour and drug/alcohol related behaviours. Neighbourhood satisfaction was low, but change was sought by the proactive Tenants and Residents Association (Broomhill Tara).
Following initial consultations, the programme, which would see more than £20 million of regeneration improvements, was announced in June 2014. An extensive programme of housing refurbishment was undertaken in Broomhill in order to bring stock up to the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS) and meet the Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH).
By the end of the regeneration, the Broomhill estate was virtually fully occupied, with clear demand for the refurbished homes. Notably, occupancy of Broomhill Court's high-rise block increased from 30% to 100%, with the introduction of the retirement housing model. For property owners, improved selling prices was as an outcome of the overall estate regeneration.
The conference takes place on 3 December at The Arches in Glasgow. Day rates for the conference start at £229 for SFHA members and £319 for non-members. If your organisation books three places, it will receive a fourth place for free.
For more information, or to book your place, please visit the conference's event page on the SFHA website.
