Fife Council are seeking views on the development and design for a shared multi-use path linking Anstruther and Pittenweem.
The project is a community-led initiative supported by the council and Sustrans to encourage active travel, linking the shops, schools and places of interest whilst providing a safe walking, cycling and wheeling route to Waid Academy.
It is part of a longer route between Kilrenny and Pittenweem, with the Kilrenny to Anstruther section already installed. Design work is now progressing to allow the route to continue along St Andrews Road to the Co-op supermarket, then along the development road to the fields at the back of the industrial premises.
From there, two possible options that will connect the communities with a safe traffic-free route for all are being investigated between Anstruther and Pittenweem, either:
• on a dedicated off-road path parallel to the A917, or
• using the current core path (P246/01 and P246/02)
Convenor of Economy, Tourism, Strategic Planning & Transportation Sub Committee, Altany Craik said: "This project is the result of many years of work from community representatives. In partnership with Fife Council and with the financial support of Sustrans, this next stage will hopefully see as many local people as possible getting involved in the consultation process to comment on the designs for a safe, active travel route for all."
The consultation will be open until the 12th November 2021.
