BEAR Scotland has announced road surface improvement works for the A83 between Balure and Tayinloan, set to get underway on Sunday 14 November.
The project will see improvements completed over a 3km section of the A83, creating a safer and smoother journey for road users.
The overnight project is programmed to begin on Sunday 14 November and is expected to take ten nights to complete. The improvements will take place between 8pm and 5am each night with the project scheduled to be completed by 5am on Friday 26 November. No work will be undertaken on Friday or Saturday nights.
Due to the narrow road widths present at this location on the A83, work will be carried out using a full road closure between Inveraray and Lochgilphead to ensure the safety of operatives and road users. Amnesty periods will be provided at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am. Motorists are encouraged to arrive prior to these times to ensure they are accommodated within the amnesty period. Local access will be maintained where safe to do so.
To help keep disruption to a minimum the A83 will remain open during the daytime, reduced speed limits will be in place and road users should drive with care as they will be running on a temporary road surface.
Emergency services will be able to pass through the works at all times. Local access for residents and scheduled bus services will be maintained as far as reasonably practicable.
Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.
Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: "This surfacing project on the A83 between Balure and Tayinloan will help address any defects and greatly improve the surface for motorists.
"The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists due to the narrow widths of the road at these locations. We’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight.
"Our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as they can, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information."
