Ramsay & Sons (Forfar) Ltd has announced that it has taken delivery of its second Emmegi CNC machine, after more than 20 years.
The delay wasn't because the Angus-based aluminium ladder specialist wasn't happy with the Emmegi Index machine purchased in 2001, but rather that the original machine had worked so well that it had never needed to be replaced.
However, as Ramsay Ladders is now looking to increase volumes in both the trade and DIY market, it has invested in a new Emmegi Comet X6 four-axis model to take it on the next step of its journey. The Comet X6 will open other production developments within its bespoke product range and produce standard ladder components more efficiently.
Gordon Lowson, Director of Ramsay & Sons, said that the Emmegi Index has been a reliable workforce for almost two decades, but that the whole team is now energised and excited by the capability and features of the new Comet X6.
He said: "The Comet X6 is even quicker and quieter than we expected. It can
machine two pieces of ladder section in two independent work areas, which will really improve our output and efficiency and guarantee us a relatively fast payback."
He added: "As far as we're aware, we are the only ladder company in the UK to have this kind of cutting-edge machine and we're confident it gives us a significant advantage over our competitors."
In single-piece mode, the Comet X6 can machine aluminium ladder sections of up to 7m in length. A 10-piece tool magazine on the X-axis also gives Ramsay all the flexibility it needs for machining of holes and slots within its complete range of ladders.
Emmegi (UK) supplied the Comet X6 to Ramsay Ladders, with installation and commissioning carried out by The Saw Centre, Glasgow.
