BEAR Scotland Announces £650,000 A90 Improvement Works

Construction News Image
BEAR Scotland are set to carry out a £650,000 road surface improvement works on a section of the A90 southbound near Forfar from Friday 22 April.

The improvements will address defects in the road surface on the southbound section of the A90 between Glamis Junction and Lochlands Junction, creating a safer and smoother road surface for motorists.

The project is scheduled to begin on Friday 22 April and is expected to take place over seven days. Works will take place consecutively where possible, with all works expected to be complete by 6am on Saturday 30 April.

To allow the project to be carried out safely, traffic management will be installed as follows:

• Friday 22 April to Sunday 24 April – Lane closures on both the northbound and southbound carriageway will be in place between 6.30pm on Friday night to 6am on Sunday morning to set up a contraflow system for the project. A single lane closure will then remain on the A90 northbound.

• Sunday 24 April to Saturday 30 April – To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, a contraflow system will be in place between Glamis Junction to just before Lochlands Junction from 6am on Sunday 24 April until 6am on Saturday 30 April. Single lane traffic will be travelling in both directions on the northbound carriageway while the A90 southbound carriageway is resurfaced. The Glamis Junction southbound on-slip will also be closed with traffic being diverted to Kirriemuir Junction and back down the A90 southbound.

Consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of the surfacing improvements to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.

Commenting on the improvements, Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North East Unit Representative, said: "This £650,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

"To allow the works to be carried out safely we need to use a contraflow system for traffic management but to minimise disruption our teams will undertake the various operations involved consecutively where possible to shorten the duration of the project.

"We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the A90. We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination."

Materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA approved methods.
