BEAR Scotland has announced a programme of resurfacing works, representing an investment of £190,000, on the A87 trunk road, scheduled to start on Monday 17 October for six nights.
Motorists travelling between Bridge Road Junction and Broom Place, through the village of Portree will benefit from an improved road surface as 950m of carriageway will be resurfaced.
Work is scheduled to take place overnight from Monday 17 October to Friday 21 October, and on Monday 24 October, from 7pm-6am each night. The work will pause on Saturday and Sunday night to minimise disruption to the travelling public. The resurfacing will create a smoother and safer journey for motorists using this busy section of the A87 trunk road.
To ensure the safety of road users and road workers, temporary traffic lights and a 10mph convoy traffic management system will be in operation while works are undertaken. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the operations some disruption to local access is inevitable, including a diversion for traffic accessing Woodpark Road.
The temporary traffic lights and 10mph convoy traffic management system will be removed from 6am each day to keep disruption to a minimum, although a speed restriction of 30mph will remain in place as traffic will be running on a temporary surface.
Consultation will be carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: "These essential resurfacing works on the A87 will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users. As always, we ask motorists to plan their journey ahead, and leave some extra time for travel where possible.
"We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information."
