CCG has successfully completed a new Council house development in Drongan, with local councillor Clare Maitland welcoming new residents to the Mill O'Shield road development.
The development includes four two-bed homes, one two-bed bungalow for older and ambulant disabled people, one two-bed wheelchair-accessible bungalow, seven three-bed homes and one four-bed home.
Councillor Clare Maitland, Cabinet Spokesperson for Planning, Human Resources and Property, was joined by local member Councillor Elaine Stewart and Blair Millar, Head of Housing and Communities.
Cllr Maitland presented flowers to Miss Beaton and her daughter as a home-warming gift. She said: "Drongan is an area where there is high demand for affordable housing. The site on Mill O’Shield Road and Hannahston Avenue was cleared by the Council to accommodate this new development of 14 homes. The development has helped to regenerate the local area while providing a range of homes that are accessible, attractive and energy efficient; meeting the varying needs of our communities.
"Meeting Miss Beaton and her daughter Donna, who is a wheelchair user, really hit home the importance of our housing building programme. To hear Donna say that she was a very happy person due to her new home was just amazing. It demonstrates that across East Ayrshire our new homes are transforming lives and transforming communities."
Miss Beaton said: "I am so proud of our new home and I was really pleased to be able to show it off. It has completely changed the way we live. Donna can easily get in and out of the house and enjoys spending time in the garden. The bathrooms are really big and so easy for Donna to use and everyone who has visited us absolutely loves the kitchen, it is so light and cheery. We may only have been in a few weeks but it feels like home already."
CCG Director, Calum Murray, said: "Since establishing our partnership alongside MAST Architects in 2017, East Ayrshire Council and CCG have helped to define a new standard for affordable housebuilding. Our collaboration has delivered high-quality, highly energy-efficient homes across the local authority whilst we have extended our reach into surrounding communities with the creation of jobs, apprenticeships, and investment.
"Most importantly, what we deliver caters to the needs of the occupier and the new homes at Mill O’ Shield Road are no different, particularly in the case of Miss Beaton and her daughter Donna who have given wonderful feedback on how transformative their new home has been in such a short period of time. We look forward to continuing our work with the Council across several more developments over the next year."
The project was developed with £0.908m of grant funding from the Scottish Government and contributes to their target of delivering 110,000 affordable homes by 2032.
