Dundee City Council has announced that 15 new young people have joined their Construction Services apprenticeship programme, set to join their Neighbourhood Regeneration, Housing & Estate Management Depute Convener Lynne Short division.
A total of fifteen apprentices have taken up roles with Dundee City Council to learn trade skills including as electricians, plumbers, joiners, painters, slaters, as well as a gas engineer, a wood machinist, and a glazier.
The 2023 intake of trainee recruits will join twenty-five apprentices who are already part of the Construction Services workforce, taking the total to forty. This follows the successful completion of apprenticeships by seven members of the service's workforce.
Neighbourhood Regeneration, Housing & Estate Management Committee Convener Mark Flynn said: "It's vitally important that we continue to invest in the city's young people and present them with the opportunities to reach their full potential, helping them to develop strong in-demand skills and supporting them to flourish in the workplace.
"The Construction Services apprenticeship scheme is a great success story and I want to congratulate the seven members of staff who have completed their programme."
Depute Convener Lynne Short said: "The Council's Construction Services is continuing this apprenticeship process by providing fifteen new recruits with great on-the-job training which will develop their careers and see them work hard to deliver for our tenants and the city as a whole.
"The roles being undertaken will help to repair, maintain, and refurbish the council's housing stock, as well as the many council-owned public buildings such as schools, offices, community buildings and more.
Neighbourhood Regeneration, Housing & Estate Management Depute Convener Lynne Short welcomed coming along to meet everyone.
Depute Convener Lynne Short added: "It's been good to come along and personally meet with the service's new apprentices who will all be eager to start learning their respective trades."
