Inverclyde Council has announced successful completion of a new, fully dedicated cycle lane in Port Glasgow.
Work on the £258,000 project began in late April and saw existing pavement widened to allow for a 2m wide footway and a 3m cycle lane along the stretch of Ardgowan Street from the junction with Scott Way to Brown Street as well as a section of Port Glasgow Road and Belhaven Street.
Welcoming the new cycleway, Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council's convener of environment and regeneration, said: "As a council we are determined to encourage more active travel and that is evident from our ongoing investment in improving cycle and walking trails around our magnificent Inverclyde coastline.
"This stretch has been created to provide a welcome link between the N75 cycle track and the retail park in Port Glasgow.
"I understand council officers are looking at improving the cycling at Kingston Dock in the future which will also connect to this route.
"It's great to see this cycle track completed and I look forward to seeing lots of people out on their bikes to discover and explore more of Inverclyde."
The work at Ardgowan Street follows on from a £75,000 transformation of Mirren Shore in Port Glasgow which was completed last July.
An active travel route between the Beacon Arts Centre and Cartsburn in Greenock was also completed earlier this year. The £150,000-project, which was led by Inverclyde Council with funding from active travel organisation Sustrans Scotland and support from Peel L&P, links the west and east sides of Inverclyde and is part of the National Cycle Network 75 (N75).
