Sub-contrators have triumphed at the 2008 Annual Scottish Chamber of Safety Conference (SCOS) in Edinburgh scooping two of the three top prizes for innovation.
Mark Sutton, SH&E manager for Robertson Northern and Robertson Highland, collected the Scottish Chamber of Safety Award for Innovation for an entry on the sub-contractor database utilised by both companies.
Mark, who is also chairman of the newly-formed Highland and Islands Safety Forum - of which Robertson are founder members - was presented with the award by The Lord Cullen of Whitekirk KT, patron of SCOS.
The entry on behalf of Robertson Central and Robertson Tayside inspired the judges with their submission on the recent Dundee and Carnoustie schools safety poster competition.
They were impressed by the concept that SCOS created a special new category in the award scheme which will be included in all future competitions.
It was collected by Robert Hendry, SH&E manager for Robertson Central and Robertson Tayside.
The inspiring submission highlighted one of SCOS's main objectives - to promote Health and Safety within educational establishments to appropriately prepare school pupils as early as possible for the working environment.
Robert also represents Robertson Central at the Safety Health and Environmental Forum Scotland, formerly Strathclyde Health and Safety Group.
Norman Stevenson, Senior Safety Health and Environmental Manager at Robertson, Chairman of SCOS, Vice Chairman of Safety Groups UK, and Board member of IIRSM said: "Roberston is very supportive of the safety Groups movement, and works hard to get the message across its supply chain and other SMEs.
"The recognition received on the day, and support provided highlights the company's commitment to safety and active involvement at local and national level in encouraging best practice."
The annual SCOS conference held at Dynamic Earth was attended by around 120 delegates, sponsors and exhibitors, and is one of various events held by the Chamber.
