North-east construction company, the CHAP Group, has spun out a new firm to facilitate further growth in the buoyant civil engineering market.
CHAP Civil Engineering has been formed in response to increased business in the sector, having previously operated as a division of CHAP Construction.
The Westhill-headquartered organisation has already secured a number of civil engineering and maintenance contracts, worth a combined total of more than £3m.
CHAP Civil Engineering has won work with a number of organisations, including utility giants Scottish Water and Scottish & Southern Energy, and will also undertake the construction of the new Foxlane Garden Centre at Elrick. Turnover is expected to hit £6m in the coming 12 months.
Hugh Craigie, CHAP Civil Engineering Director, says the formation of the company will see the CHAP Group return to its roots.
He said: "While this part of our business has only been officially trading as a company in its own right since the beginning of April, civil engineering has been at the heart of CHAP since its inception over 30 years ago.
"We have extensive experience and a proven track record in this field and I believe this puts us in an excellent position to continue to provide high quality services and to capitalise on future opportunities."
Employing more than 60 staff, the company specialises in water, drainage, telecoms and power installation. Work is undertaken primarily within the North-east area, but current contracts are ongoing across Scotland and projects have been undertaken previously in England and Northern Ireland.
The CHAP Group - which encompasses the four companies of CHAP Construction, CHAP Homes, CHAP Civil Engineering and CHAP Quarries, as well as NTP Kitchens and Joinery Limited - is headquartered in Westhill and currently employs more than 300 staff throughout the North-east.
