Scotland might be missing out on the European Championships but for the country's builders at least, the ‘Braveheart’ passion was on display as teams competed for the inaugural Scottish Building Federation 5-a-side trophy in Perth on Saturday June 7th .
Whilst Switzerland and the Czech Republic battled it out in the opening game in Basle, Mansell Grampian and Thomas Johnstone were engaged in their own battle to be crowned 2008 SBF 5-a-side champions. Mansell Grampian finally edged Thomas Johnstone to top spot but not before all involved had enjoyed the day’s festivities.
The finals at St Johnstone’s MacDiarmid Park in Perth brought together the top teams from the 12 regional heats that took place across Scotland throughout April and May.
Speaking after the award ceremony, Michael Levack, Chief Executive said: "Congratulations to the guys from Mansell Grampian and commiserations to Thomas Johnston. It has been a great tournament taking in 12 regional heats across the country and has been played in a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship throughout.
"A special mention must go to man of the tournament Kenny Duncan of Rok, whose commitment was such that even a trip to the hospital and a broken leg did not stop him turning for the final."
Mr Levack said judging by this year’s success, next year’s tournament promises to be bigger and better yet.
