Work To Alleviate Dunoon Flooding Problems Begins

Work to alleviate flooding problems in the Kilbride Road area of Dunoon has now started.

There is a long history of properties in the area being affected by flooding due to the existing drains being unable to cope with heavy rainfall.

However, following a competitive tendering process, Argyll and Bute Council awarded a contract to McKean and Co Ltd to significantly reduce the possibility of the area flooding again.


The work will include the installation of a new surface water drainage channel on Crochan Road Upper, a new ditch down Crochan Road Lower and a new surface water drain to be laid in Kilbride Road from its junction with Crochan Road Lower, down Kilbride Road, across the A815 and Esplanade to a new outfall to the Clyde.

Surfacing in Crochan Road Lower and approximately 250 metres along Crochan Road Upper is also going to be done.

Work is expected to be completed by mid summer 2009.

Various sections of Kilbride Road will be closed to the public at different times to allow the works to proceed and the both the contractor and the Council will be trying to keep local householders and others affected by the works informed of the plans and keep disruption to a minimum.
